MattyCollector announces details of new He-Man figure subscription

Masters of the Universe Classics is coming to an end, but as shown at this past SDCC, there is a replacement line that should make long time He-fans very happy.

Although MOTUC was a phenomenal series of action figures (is, I suppose, is a better word to use since it isn’t over yet), there’s one area that it missed the mark on- and that’s the likeness to the classic Filmation He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon. The series mainly looked to update the toy line though, to be fair, as it appeared on store shelves in the ’80s, not directly reproduce the cartoon’s style.

For me personally, that wasn’t a detraction, as I loved what sculpting team The Four Horsemen did with the toys, but I could see whereas some fans might want show-accurate figures. And that’s where the Filmation subscription comes in.

I don’t think it’s been ruled out anywhere that we might see additional MOTUC figures at some point, but that Filmation series that debuted at Comic Con is the main replacement, of that there’s no question. Just don’t look for this new lineup to be as fully fleshed-out as the original.

Mattel has announced, through their collector site MattyCollector.com, that the subscription will be called Classics 2.0 and will have figures produced in the same 7″ scale as MOTUC. Size and scale-wise, these bad boys and girls will fit right in alongside your current collection on the old shelf. But there’s a huge difference in the styling behind them. As you can see in the image to the right, this line is all about the show, and reproducing the look and feel of the animation of the day.

There’s another difference between this new sub and the first one too, and that’s that this one is set to be more of a mini-sub and less of a full on, monthly subscription. Matty plans of producing only the heavy hitters of MOTU, and will ship them on a bi-monthly basis throughout 2016.

As such, you can expect a pretty hefty lineup, as goes the star-power. And it is (along with the ship-dates):

  • He-Man (2/16)
  • Trap Jaw (4/16)
  • Skeletor (6/16)
  • Evil Seed (Subscription-only figure, 8/16)
  • Beast Man (8/16)
  • Evil-Lyn (10/16)
  • Clawful (12/16)

If you’d like to subscribe to the new line, subbing opens up on October 5th, and runs through November 2nd at 11:59pm pacific. Click here for more details on that.
