The Witcher 3 packs a whopping 16 DLC packs – all of them free

No, you didn’t read that wrong- over a dozen downloadable content packs are on the way for when The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt arrives the February, and all of them will be free to add onto your copy of the game.

The Witcher 3 is a landmark game in a few ways already, it’s the last game in the series from developer CD Projekt Red and it’s also a stunningly vast and well realized title. Now you can add one more impressive note to that list as the game will have 16 free packs of DLC starting at launch and then releasing at a rate of 2 a week.

The Temerian Armor Set will be first on the list (and actually includes horse armor) and will be followed by Beard and Hairstyle Set for the game’s main character, Geralt. Past those, the sets have yet to really be detailed, though you can see from the image above that there’ll be an alternate look for Yennefer and a new contract for Geralt to pick up on in the game.

Gamers don’t need to do anything special to get in on the DLC, not even pre-order the game, and you don’t even have to commit to a ‘special edition’. All you need to do to get in on the added action (and horse armor) is buy a copy of The Witcher 3- any copy for any platform.

The first bundle will be available the day after launch day (February 25th) and the rest will then release exactly one week from there, continuing forward. So, why the freebies? Well, not that you’re complaining, but CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwinski says it’s purely as a thank you for buying their newest game, no strings attached.

In this day and age, that’s pretty nice indeed. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt releases on February 24th, 2015. If you’d like to read the full letter from Iwinski to the gaming public, click here.
