New The Evil Within trailer is creep-tastic, shows all new story elements

The plot of The Evil Within, Shinji Mikami’s newest survival-horror spook-fest, has been something of a mystery outside of some basic elements. The newest trailer for the game shows a lot more of what lurks behind the veil of horror though, and it’s looking pretty awesome.

While investigating the scene of a gruesome mass murder, Detective Sebastian Castellanos and his partners encounter a mysterious and powerful force. After seeing the slaughter of fellow officers, Sebastian is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a deranged world where hideous creatures wander among the dead. Facing unimaginable terror, and fighting for survival, Sebastian embarks on a frightening journey to unravel what’s behind this evil force.

Mikami is best known of course for the Resident Evil series, and The Evil Within has been heralded as a return to form for the game director. So far though, this newest title is looking like a completely different animal and one that looks way more horror-centric than the zombie survival/horror title ever was.

You can’t really go for more than a few moments in the trailer above without seeing something truly horrific after all, and it’s all pretty unique stuff. It looks like Mikami has seriously been letting his imagination run wild on this one- which is a very good thing indeed.

The Evil Within arrives on August 29th for the Xbox One/360, PS4/3, and PC.
