Animation and AI play a big role in Techland’s Hellraid

Have a peek at the extensive motion captured animation and AI abilities of one of the biggest foes you’ll face in Hellraid in the new trailer for the game.

Hellraid has had its fair share of delays as the game was scheduled to hit consoles and the PC last year and it’s still somewhat off the radar for launch. The game does look like it might be worth the wait for dark fantasy fans though. Personally, I like the whole vibe that Techland is working on with Hellraid and, lets be honest, these guys know the undead and how to make  game around them.

If you’re not aware, Techland is the developer of the Dead Island series, so basically, you could think of Hellraid as Dead Island in a medieval setting. Sort of. Hellraid has a lot more going  on under the hood than those ages though as the AI has been a focus of the developer as has the animation and making sure the game’s skeleton warriors are not only looking sharp, but acting like the intelligent and ruthless foes that they should be.

You can read up on just how the debs are going about programming these boney baddies here and here in a pair of blog posts about them; Hellraid is scheduled to hit some time (hopefully this year) for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. While you wait, you could always ‘play’ through the video prequel on YouTube.
