The latest Court of the Dead graphic novel is inbound from Sideshow and Insight Comics. Join the creepy Court this Tuesday.
I can’t say I’m overly familiar with Court of the Dead, but it’s an intriguing property. An original story created at Sideshow Toys, the Court has been featured in a line of incredibly detailed statues for years now. Recently, that series made the jump to actual comics though, and that’s where Shadows of the Underworld comes in. Published by Insight Editions, known for their collector books, this new graphic novel fleshes (pardon the pun) out the world of Court of the Dead.
Veteran Sideshow Creative Director Tom Gilliland leads the creative effort here, in a book that’s described as “forged of a creative sensibility informed by D&D, heavy metal imagery, and a life-changing near-death experience”. That last note belongs to Gilliland by the way, who’s joined by illustrator Ivan Koritarev and writer Jacob Murray. You can read more on all of the above here. And see more about Ivan in the video short below.
There’s lots more to come featuring the Court of the Dead, so stay tuned. Shadows of the Underworld lands on February the 12th.
Here’s a brief look at the story:
Before the denizens of the Underworld can rise up and end the war between Heaven and Hell, they must first defeat the darkness within themselves: the Dreadsgrip.
The power reaped from mortal souls comes at a significant cost. Any reapers that siphon too much ethereal power from the harvest may lose themselves to the Dreadsgrip, an irresistible thirst to destroy. Now, a rogue agent in Death’s Underworld is stoking a mutiny, fueled by the terrible Dreadsgrip plague that affects all denizens of the Underworld—a plague that could derail the leader of the Underworld, the Alltaker himself, and his plans to rise up against the celestial powers of Heaven and Hell.
With this growing curse reverberating throughout the Alltaker’s kingdom, Death’s impulsive daughter Kier must join forces with the queen’s intractable right hand, Exraile, to root out and destroy this danger. These mighty warriors will need more than just their swords to slice through the Shadows of the Underworld.Insight Editions press release
