Shadowgate set to open up on PC and Mac

Shadowgate (yes, that Shadowgate) is coming back. The classically-styled adventure/dungeon crawl is back and looking sharp for a modern remake on PC and Mac.

Hard to believe, but it’s been almost three decades since Shadowgate first hit the NES. I remember very well creeping through the underground catacombs of Castle Shadowgate, searching through crypts for items, and battling against traps and monsters in equal measure. For back then, it was actually a pretty amazing time, and that’s something that the ‘new’ Shadowgate will be looking to emulate for it’s debut on the PC and Mac.

As you saw in the trailer, if you’ve played that original title, then you’ll feel right at home here… with some very apparent graphical upgrades at any rate. Developer Zojoi has overhauled the look with hand-painted rooms to explore, new items, and new original characters; all while keeping the theme and many of the conventions of the original.

It looks like a winner so far and, particularly if you’re a fan, one to keep an eye on. Shadowgate opens its gates once more on the PC and Mac this August the 21st via Steam.
