If you collect those individually bagged LEGO characters that fans have come to know and love, this one’s for you.
Stressing the classic LEGO sensibilities of the archetypical worlds that the brand used to specialize in (you know, before every major comic book and Summer blockbuster got a series?) LEGO Minifigures Online is all about collecting characters and, well, playing with LEGO’s.
In ‘ LEGO Minifigures Online’ you once again get to visit Pirate World, Space World, Medieval World and many others, as you play together with thousands of other players while collecting minifigures and developing their unique and powerful abilities. Smash, build and collect – thousands of exciting adventures are just a brick away in ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’!
Personally, I have some great memories of the pre-licensed LEGO series like the pirates and medieval collections. I knew somebody who built a wicked cool LEGO castle that was 5’x5′ easy, and I actually linked up a pile of the pirate sets into a colonial seaport in my bedroom- complete with a British warship docked in the harbor. Just how it is that it actually stayed in one piece is probably somewhat miraculous with the amount of Laser Tag (and Photon!) that went on around it.
In any event, though I’m a big fan of the current LEGO stuff like Lord of the Rings and DC/Marvel Superheroes, I’ll always have a place in my heart for those older sets that had no such big name branding- other than LEGO anyway. With that in mind, I’m particularly interested in just what it is that LEGO Minifigures Online will be offering. It kind of sounds like you’ll be doing your own thing here as the game is geared towards fans of all ages and seems pretty open to whatever kind of ‘adventure’ you like from the pr text.
As for the developers Funcom, Executive Producer Lawrence Poe says the team behind the game is made up of some very excited, longtime LEGO fans:
“We could not be more excited to be working with LEGO on such a great franchise. I think you could even say the team has been training to make this game since we were little kids,” says Lawrence Poe, Executive Producer on ‘ LEGO Minifigures Online’. “That excitement carries over into everything we do, and we’re throwing every ounce of our passion and creativity into the game. We are one hundred percent focused on delivering the fun, safe, quality experience that people expect when they think of LEGO minifigures.”
Sounds good guys. Just make sure you get that pirate set in there and we’ll be good. I’m feeling the itch to builds me a port town.
Look for LEGO Minifigures Online to be available digitally for the PC, iOS and Android devices some time in 2014.
