It’s a full-court press for DC comics with the legendary Bruce Timm’s brand new take on the Justice League.
That’s definitely a unique take on the familiar trinity of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. They certainly don’t seem like good guys in the traditional sense, and yet this alternate universe League doesn’t seem like the villains of the Crime Syndicate either. They kind of walk that line between anti-hero and villain, especially Batman, who shows more than a little bit of Red Reign in his vampiric appearance.
So far, we know that Superman is the son of Zod and not Jor El, Wonder Woman is the daughter of Ares, and Bats is a vampire, but who they all really are (secret identity-wise) is still a huge mystery. As is the villain by the way, as Timm has spilled the beans on precious little, only hinting at a few things in the video above. As for the extensions of the film though, there we have a little more to tell you.
The digital comic series will kick off in July, offering looks at all three of the main characters with a team-up story included in there as well. And the toy line (which looks awesome in the DC animated style) will begin shipping in the Fall. Included in the first series will be the big three, and that’s a little clue as well, in that the pr text actually reads ‘first series’. Apparently DC has some more in store for the Gods and Monsters universe, so stay tuned for that as well.
As for the main event, the animated film Justice League: Gods and Monsters will debut later this year. We’ll let you know when as soon as we do.
