Deep Gravity takes a very personal story to the edge of the galaxy

Imagine a world with deadly fauna and gravity so strong that it could crush you if you weren’t careful. Now imagine going there just to get back together with someone you’re in love with.

He didn’t get onto the most lucrative interstellar mission for the money—Paxon wants to be reunited with the woman he loves. But his high-stakes journey takes him to a savage world full of the galaxy’s most dangerous game, where the gravity can turn your bones to powder.

Deep Gravity is an interesting science fiction tale from Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman, and Dark Horse boss Mike Richardson himself. It’s easy to forget that Richardson, who is a film producer and co-founder of Dark Horse Comics, is also a writer. He certainly is one though, and has scripted properties like The Mask and both TimeCop movies.

Now with Deep Gravity he’s doing something a little different as he teams with Star Wars: Legacy and Planet of the Apes’ writer Bechko and Hardman. The preview has an almost Alien feel to it (as in the movie series) and of course, is intensely personal. There’s action to be found here most definitely, as you can see in the preview to the left, but there’s also a very ‘small’ story at its heart, which is the potential love story between two people.

I say ‘potential’ because it certainly seems pretty one sided at the moment. But hey, this is just the first issue, so who knows where it goes from here. And lots can change when faced with the hostile potential of an alien world- we’ve all been there, am I right?

Deep Gravity #1 impacts the stands on July 30th from Dark Horse, the writing tandem of Corinna Bechko & Gabriel Hardman, and artist Fernando Baldo.
