Cyclops meets Corsair in the cosmically-tilted Cyclops #1

The first issue of Marvel’s standalone Cyke title brings together two generations of Summers’ for a little space-fairing action.

This May, experience the ongoing adventures of young Scott Summers in CYCLOPS #1 – the all-new series from Eisner Award winning writer Greg Rucka and artist Russel Dauterman spinning directly out of the blockbuster All-New X-Men crossover “The Trial of Jean Grey”!

After clashing with the Shi’ar on the edge of deep space, Scott Summers is about to encounter the last person he’d ever expect to meet – his space pirate father!

Long thought dead, Corsair, leader of  that intergalactic band of misfits the Starjammers, has returned! And he’s got a new recruit in the form of his son, young Cyclops himself! Scott Summers is leaving the X-Men behind to stay in space and learn a few valuable lessons from dad: 1) How to shave, 2) How to talk to women, 3) How to steal a Badoon spaceship.

“I’m beyond excited for readers to see how Greg and Russell are collaborating with this book,” says Editor Jeanine Schaefer. “Greg is absolutely on fire, hitting every beat you would ever want from a space opera meets intergalactic road trip; and a star is born with Russell’s work here – when he’s huge people are going to be coming back to this series again and again.”

Don’t miss one moment of the high adventure in deep space as Rucka & Dauterman kick off the newest cosmic adventure this May in the action packed CYCLOPS #1!

Before I say anything about this one, let it be known that I am a huge Cyclops fan. I love the character in pretty much all his classic forms (read: Not the current version) and am very interested to see what writer Greg Rucka does with his younger time-displaced self here in the spotlight of his own title.

We all know that there’s a lot of timey-wimey stuff happening in the Marvel U right now and the young Cyke might not be sticking around forever, but man I hope this lasts a little longer. Not only is this the iconic version of Scott Summers, but we also have the same for the rest of the original X-Men in the All-New X-Men ongoing book. For an old schools X-fan, that’s magic and the next best thing to actually rebooting the timeline and getting back some of that original X-Men magic.

I know it’s not been for everyone, and there were more than a few detractors of the time travel story arc, but I hope it doesn’t disappear anytime soon- and the same goes for Mr. Summers here. As for the Starjammers and Corsair in particular, I’ve never been the biggest fan, but it’s admittedly pretty neat to see these classic characters back on the printed page.

Greg Rucka and Russel Dauterman bring Cyclops #1 out of the time stream and onto the racks on May 7th.
