Retro Studios developing new game

Retro Studios is one company that just doesn’t rest. Just shortly after finishing up Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Retro is already working on another project.

Retro has said that their next game won’t be another entry in the Donkey Kong Country series, but are interested in making another one down the line. It makes sense that they wouldn’t completely drop DKC, after all, a third game in the series would make it a trilogy. According to Retro Studios CEO Michael Kelbaugh, the Wii U is a powerhouse that is more than capable of producing some really great titles. There are a number of different possible games that that could arise from Retro. Metroid Prime was mentioned in the article, as well as Mario Kart. Although there’s already Mario Kart 8 on Wii U, so it’s not going to be any time in the near future.

It’s quite possible the next game is a new Metroid. Nintendo has been hinting at a possible new Metroid game lately. From the Metroid lapel on Reggie‘s jacket, to Miyamoto saying Retro could be working on a new Metroid, to the “He’s baaaaaack” message on the miiverse demo. There’s been strong indications all around that the next game will either be Metroid Prime or something Metroid related. They’re also quite a versatile studio, so it may not just be one game. They’re always on their feet, working on multiple projects. So don’t rule out the possible Star Fox or F-Zero game. Anything is possible with Retro Studios.
