Marvel announces all-new Moon Knight ongoing series

The Knight in white is headed back into a monthly title from the mega-publisher and writer Warren Ellis. Expect high strangeness to abound.

Ellis is promising a ‘complete’ version of the Moon Knight with characterization that combines both the classic (and long-running) ‘heroic’ version of the character and the more supernatural version that most recently told the tale of Marc Spector’s adventures in the big city.

“The touchstone for this book, for me, has been ‘Weird Crime’. Both ground-level action and high strangeness,” says Warren Ellis, in an interview with Marvel.com. “This is a take on Moon Knight that unifies all the previous takes, making the character whole and taking him forward into a new kind of crime fiction.”

“Moon Knight is one of Marvel’s most underrated characters we have and with ‘MK’ back in New York City, the book is going to be a reflection of its environment: filled with darkness, secrets and super heroes,” says Series Editor, Stephen Wacker.

I’m a pretty big fan of the character, who more often than not is treated as a second-class hero in the big and bold universe that Marvel has crafted. MK has always been of the darker caste, even in the more superhero-y takes on him and it’s really great to hear Ellis talking up the fact that that’s not going to change with the all-new book.

Added to Ellis’ stories will be the talented artwork of Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire, who’ll be paintin the visuals for Moon Knight’s all-new Marvel NOW! tales. This is one that I’m probably looking forward to more than anything else that Marvel has cooking for 2014, if you’re in that boat too, then make sure you mark this coming March off on the calendar as that’s when Moon Knight #1 will be hitting stands.
