The new era for the popular shooter franchise is now available for all current-gen consoles and PC.
There’s a lot of ‘new’ in the newest game to bear the CoD name. Sure the storyline is fresh and the universe that developer Infinity Ward has crested for Ghosts is different that their now iconic ‘Modern Warfare’ label, but there’s a lot more than that going on in Call of Duty: Ghosts.
“The launch of Call of Duty has become a pop-cultural event shared by millions around the globe. We consider this a huge honor and it drives us to exceed our fans’ expectations each and every time,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing Inc. “Call of Duty: Ghosts delivers on this promise with an epic thrill ride which takes the franchise to new heights on both current and next gen consoles. The teams at Infinity Ward, Raven and Neversoft have poured their hearts and souls into making this the must have gaming experience of the next generation. And of course, none of this would be possible without the most passionate fans in the world. Today is for them.”
And yes, while it is the US vs the bad guys again, it’s done in a whole new way this time with the United States reeling after a massive attack via an orbital weapons platform called ODIN. Activision promises that the single player experience will be a deeper one than ever before with a storyline and characters that are straight from the pen of co-writer (and Academy Award winner) Stephan Gaghan. And then there’s that multiplayer…
“From Day One, we’ve set out to create the next generation of Call of Duty with Ghosts,”said Mark Rubin, Executive Producer, Infinity Ward. “With an all-new single player story, our best multiplayer game yet, character customization, squads mode and an all-new Extinction mode that lets you battle it out against aliens, this game is the complete entertainment package. We’re excited today is finally here and can’t wait for our fans all over the world to start playing.”
Multiplayer has always been one of the biggest and most captivating parts of Call of Duty, no matter the subtitle, and Ghosts is no different in that respect. Ghosts has amped up the player-customization features with over 20,000 possible combinations and selectable female solderers (a first for the series). Infinity Ward has also included 7 different modes of play (including Squads and the alien-hunting Extinction), 14 maps, 30 new weapons and 20 new Killstreaks.
In a nutshell, it’s a lot of game. If you’re a shooter fan, then there are really only a few FPS’ that you look forward to every year or so and Call of Duty is definitely one of them. Call of Duty: Ghosts is available now for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC with Xbox One and PS4 editions coming on November 22nd.
The Season Pass is also available right now and will get you all of 2014’s map packs in one neat little package. You can also buy in on the current generation edition of the game and upgrade to either next-gen console when they’re released later this month for $9.99 USD.
