It’s beta season for Modern Warfare 4. Fans heading into the event will be in for more than just multiplayer, with a taste of the campaign.
Modern Warfare campaign sneak peek
Rounding into form is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the next game in Activision‘s long-running FPS series. The title is set to bring back the dark and gritty world of Modern Warfare, which will once again include popular characters like Price and Ghost. That’s in addition to an all-new front for player to wage war on, as the Koreas erupt into all-out chaos.
Of course, multiplayer will be a big part of the attraction, and will factor into the upcoming Beta test. And as you may or may not know, that’ll drop in two waves. The first will be open only to those who pre-order the game for the XBOX Series X/S, PlayStation 5, or PC. Fans can look for that to become available in just a few days, on August 21st, 2026.
Wave two will bring more action on August 28th, with a battle that’ll be open to everyone, with no pre-order needed. And yes, that second period will include those who are playing on a Switch 2. As we just found out through, the above testing periods won’t be strictly about multiplayer.
All-in-one
According to XBOX boss Asha Sharma, the Modern Warfare 4 Beta will include an exclusive single-player campaign mission called “Entrenched”. A single player mission in a Call of Duty Beta? Yep. That said though, we’re a little fuzzy on the definition of “exclusive”. Does that mean that the mission will be only found in the beta? Or will it also be in the full game when it drops?
Honestly, we’re excited about it either way. It’s pretty slick to get an early look at the campaign, and especially a level that looks like it might offer something new for the series, with trench warfare.
What’d you think of that? We’re digging the way Entrenched looks. But hang on, because that’s not all. Weekend number two will also bring a playable bit of none other than Warzone. That’ll be found with a something called Zodiac, which is a resurgence map.
So yeah, that all means that all three variations of Call of Duty (single player, multiplayer, and Warzone) are packed up into one multi-weekend Beta.
