Surprising attendees, Paramount has revealed that actor Johnny Depp is back with a Christmas classic. Get ready for Ebenezer.
Ebenezer… (clanging metal sounds follow)
Well, it has been a while. Actor Johnny Depp hasn’t appeared in a big Hollywood flick in a long time at this point. The last one we can remember is 2018’s Fantastic Beasts, though we’re sure he made a few appearances here and there after that.
His temporary retirement though, appears to be very much over. That’s due to a surprise announcement at San Diego Comic Con, that saw Paramount Pictures deliver the news that Depp would be starring in this fall’s Ebenezer. Yes, that Ebenezer.
The Christmastime tale of Scrooge has been well told over the years of course, and in a few ways. But this is Johnny Depp we’re talking about, so you know his is going to be just a tad different. Right there along with him too, is what looks to be a stellar cast.
Fans can look for Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, and Charlie Murphy to all be onboard. They’re not all either, as Tramell Tillman and the great Ian McKellen will also be included.
This November, Johnny Depp is Ebenezer Scrooge. The name you know, the story you don’t. From Ti West, EBENEZER also stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, with Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen.

We’re digging how Ebenezer is shaping up. The flick looks like it might be a Christmas movie that could actually make a dent in the box office. It’s been a while since that’s happened too, though if anybody’s going to pull the feat off, it’s probably Depp.
Speaking of the actor, the film’s announcement wasn’t the only shocker to come out at the Con’s panel. Depp himself actually took the stage, and in costume no less. The actor even met with fans out on the street, coming face to face with Jack Sparrow and Willy Wonka cosplayers. As for the film in question though, as mentioned, fans can look for it to head to theaters just in time for the holiday season. Directed by Ti West and based on a screenplay from Nathaniel Halpern, Ebenezer is set to hit theaters on November 13th, 2026.
