Final Fantasy, Donkey Kong and more in the Nintendo Download

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth lands this week for the Switch 2, along with Donkey Kong 64 for Nintendo Switch Online, and more.

Final Fantasy, finally

Final Fantasy fans finally have the most recent release in the series to play on their Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix delivered that title this week, as it brought the 2024 (PS5) release to the full spread of modern platforms. And if you played the original installment of Final Fantasy VII’s remakes, then this release would be part two of that series.

If you haven’t played that first game though, then you might be wondering what we’re talking about. Basically, Square Enix is remaking the PlayStation classic that was Final Fantasy VII, but as a trilogy. So Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the first sequel, bringing the continuing adventures of Cloud Strife and crew to fans.

But while the story is similar to that 90s icon, the gameplay isn’t. Instead of a traditional, turn-based JRPG formula, these new games are real-time. It’s a big change from the classic formula, so whether you dig that alteration or not, is up to you.

There is also more this week than just FFVII. Donkey Kong 64 has made its way to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Fans who subscribe to Nintendo’s online platform should have access to the game now. So if you’re up to play DK’s N64 adventure, now’s your time.

In addition to the above, there’s also a monster selction of other games arriving this week. And yes, those are split between the two consoles, though a little more heavily tilted to the original Switch. Scroll down the page to check out the complete listing.
