Stuntman is back, and loading up with Hollywood mayhem

A long-forgotten property is coming back to consoles and the PC, as Saber Interactive revs up Stuntman for a new generation.

Stuntman returns

Remember Stuntman? Originally released on the PS2 way back in 2002, Stuntman let players get a feel for what being a real-world stunt driver was all about. In it, fans could get behind the wheel of a series of vehicles, performing stunts as though they were in a big budget picture.

The followup, 2007’s Stuntman Ignition, got even more in depth too. While the gameplay remained more or less intact, the sequel allowed fans to rev their engines in spoofs of major TV and movies. That said though, the premise will look to get a shot in the arm with the just-revealed Stuntman: Hollywood.

No, your eyes do not deceive you. Not seen for almost two decades, the long dormant series is back, this time from Saber Interactive. And from the first look at the game that was shown at Sony’s State of Play presentation, it’s set to serve up a whole new stage of action.

Forget about those aforementioned spoofs, because Stuntman: Hollywood is all about actual classic properties. In it, players will be able to pull off vehicular stunts backed by an agreement with NBC Universal. And with those pedigrees, you’d best believe that there are some massive IP’s onboard.

“The classic Stuntman game was so memorable for me, it’s always been a dream to recreate such a legend of gaming history and evolve it into something new,” said Tim Willits, Chief Creative Officer of Saber Interactive. “At Saber, we love working with classic IPs, and we’re excited to team up again with Universal to bring back a true adrenaline rush for fans.”

Stuntman: Hollywood takes you behind the wheel as an up-and-coming stuntman to perform legendary stunts inspired by some of the world’s biggest blockbuster films and television series. Experience the power, precision and spectacle of a range of classic movie and television vehicles and live out your stuntman fantasies, tackling death-defying stunts and drifts, jaw-dropping ramps and more – all inspired by your favorite adventures from the screen!

Big blockbusters, iconic rides

As mentioned above, Stuntman: Hollywood looks to include some huge properties. The full list features monster-sized fan-favorites like Fast & FuriousBack to the FutureKnight RiderMiami Vice, and even Death Race. How’s that last one for niche?

On the gameplay side, and for those who haven’t played the original titles, Stuntman: Hollywood will similarly task players with hitting their marks.

Chain together jumps, drifts, and near-misses as chaos unfolds around you, hitting every mark with precision. Rise through the ranks to become Hollywood’s most in-demand stunt performer, unlocking new challenges, vehicles, and increasingly ambitious set pieces as you prove your mastery behind the wheel. Chase perfection and cement your reputation as a true legend of the screen.

Saber Interactive press release

From that point, “new challenges, vehicles, and increasingly ambitious set pieces” will all open up. That’s not to mention the cars and more that’ll be available to make use of, which will serve up the rides you saw in the trailer above. Not that they might all be licensed. It sounds like there will be some original vehicles as well, with Saber Interactive pointing out a list of them.

According to the developer, fans can look for “high-speed supercars, muscle cars, and agile motorcycles” to all be drivable. We assume that means that there’ll be some original productions to play thorugh as well, though we’re not altogether sure.

That’s mainly because there aren’t a ton of details right now for Stuntman: Hollywood. For that matter, there’s no release date either, though you can wishlist the game now for the PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and the PC.
