Cyclops and The Thing arrive for MARVEL Cosmic Invasion

A pair of new characters have landed for MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, with the X-Men’s Cyclops and FF stalwart, The Thing.

Cosmic Invasion bulks up

Out for a while now, Dotemu and Tribute Games’ MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is a beat ’em up in the classic style. And packing a dose of nostalgia, it also plays off of Marvel Comics’ classic 90s legacy. With that, it features some cool visual takes on some of the publisher’s biggest heroes.

The lot includes multiple Avengers, Spider-Man, several X-Men, and more. As of today though, that roster can be bolstered by a fresh offering of downloadable content. And if you’ve been waiting for a member of the Fantastic Four to challenge the game’s arch-foe Annihilus, well you’re in luck.

The ever lovin’ blue eyed Thing can represent Marvel’s first family in the game. As with the title’s stock characters too, he’s sporting a few costume variants, but then again, so is Cyclops. The X-Men’s field leader is the second part of the DLC drop.

In true 90s style, he’s sporting his costume that debuted in the legendary X-Men #1 comic. Not only that, but he’s also decked out in his bomber jacket, and dishing out some serious optic-blasts. We’re pretty sure that we recognize that voice acting as well. Or, at the very least, the spirit of it.

  • DLC 1 – Cyclops & The Thing – Launching Today on All Platforms for $3.99
    • The Thing: The Fantastic Four’s heaviest hitter brings his cosmic radiation-induced might to the fray, excelling in MARVEL Cosmic Invasion as a grappling-focused powerhouse. With surprising mobility allowing him to bounce across environments to get the jump on enemies, this former ace pilot embraces his new role as a tanklike protector of family and allies alike, arriving as an incredible asset to any team.
    • Cyclops: The no-nonsense leader of the X-Men and one of the most-requested additions by fans, Cyclops blasts into battle to make quick work of foes with his signature kinetic energy beams. Cyclops’ optic blasts can also be shot diagonally, providing an excellent counter for aerial enemies – and opportunities to catch opponents off guard.

Cyclops & The Thing are available now as a bundle, for all versions of the base game. Adding the heroes to your copy will cost you $3.99 USD.

More to come

It looks like MARVEL Cosmic Invasion might be following a similar path to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. If that’s the case, we’re all for it. Fans of the latter game will know what we mean, as the TMNT’s latest saw a whole bunch of post-launch content.

And from the press release today, it looks like the above new characters might be just the start for Marvel fans. We’re keeping our fingers crossed at any rate. Lending some potential reality to that though is that, along with the aforementioned reveals/landings, comes word that there’ll be a second drop here in 2026, arriving this fall.

That’ll include more playable characters, but also a whole new mode of play.

  • DLC 2 – Launching Fall 2026
    • An all-new game mode offering fresh challenges for MARVEL Cosmic Invasion’s Super Heroes (and Villains!) will be revealed later this year alongside even more playable characters ready to join the battle against Annihilus. Keep your Super Hero senses sharp for updates!
Dotemu press release

Stay tuned for more news about the mode and who else might be joining the cast of MARVEL Cosmic Invasion. We don’t have any rumors or hints to report on those upcoming heroes just yet, but we’re guessing Johnny Storm and Professor Hulk.
