DC’s Kingdom of Zod brings the Superman family together

A mighty crossover is gearing up for launch this summer/fall, and it’ll see a longtime Super-foe return. Get ready for Kingdom of Zod.

Kneel before Zod!

If you’re a fan of Superman, Supergirl, or really any member of the Super-familiy, what publisher DC has unveiled is looking like a mighty big event. That, as you can see above, would be Kingdom of Zod, hailing the return of one of the Man of Steel’s arch-foes.

The event will see a hefty roster of talent behind it too, as it branches out into the full collection of Super-books. How hefty? Well, names include “writers Joshua Williamson, Sophie Campbell, Mark Waid, and Dan Slott, along with artists Eddy Barrows, Joe Quinones, Montos, and Rachael Stott”. So yeah, it’s a pretty stacked event, and that’s before we even get to the actual narrative.

Speaking of, and getting back to it, it sounds like the Kryptonian general is set to dish some major pain. He’s not alone either, as Kingdom of Zod will usher in a plan that might include some other members of the alien race. Most of that story does sound like it’s still under wraps, but we do know it involves kryptonite.

Fans can look for events to start in the wake of the Reign of the Superboys storyline. That’ll see it spin out into the pages of Supergirl #16 this August the 12th. And from there, Kingdom of Zod will roll out into multiple Super-titles. Yes, that includes Superman.

While the Man of Tomorrow won’t be included in the tale’s opening, he’s on his way.

The story begins on August 12 in Supergirl #16, when a mysterious military coup dangerously destabilizes the Kryptonite Kingdom of El Caldero. Supergirl assembles her own strike team—a Super-Force including Superboy-Prime, Conner Kent, Tomorrow Man, Steel, and more—to infiltrate the occupied territory. Fresh off the epic Reign of the Superboys storyline, Kara’s Superboy crew is shocked to discover this conquering force is Kryptonian in origin…and deadly. That same day, Action Comics #1101 sees Superman crash-land back into the present day after the events ofAction Comics #1100 (no spoilers here!), only to find himself immediately drawn into the escalating conflict.

How the Kryptonian general has returned and what role he plays in the takeover will leave readers stunned, as a shocking twist sets the entire world ablaze with the power of Kryptonite! Guillem March provides connecting main covers across all four series in August, with variant covers by Noobovich, Stephanie Hans, Joe Quinones, Ariel Olivetti, Mike Choi, ACO, Taurin Clarke, Vincenzo Riccardi, and Christian Ward. Mark Spears will provide foil variant covers for all four titles.

DC will be wrapping everything up in a mighty one-shot. Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special is that book, en route for a September 30th launch.

The Kingdom of Zod crossover continues on August 19 in Superman Unlimited #16, where Zod reveals the true scope of his plan and unleashes a dangerous Kryptonite infection that spreads across the world. The first month of “Kingdom of Zod” concludes on August 26 with Superman #41, as Superman, Supergirl, Superboy-Prime, and the Super-Family confront Zod in a battle that will reshape the future of the House of El!

The story continues through September with chapters in Supergirl #17, Action Comics #1102, Superman Unlimited #17, and Superman #42, bringing the Kingdom of Zod arc to its explosive conclusion in a one-shot,Superman: Kingdom of Zod Special,on September 30.
