Continuing the theme of brick-built versions of gaming consoles, the LEGO SEGA Genesis set is heading to store shelves next month.
Genesis builds
Not one of the toy-makers biggest lines, LEGO has nonetheless released a number of video game hardware-themed sets over the years. There was the NES, the Atari 2600, and PAC-MAN even got in on the act. Now the line is about to expand yet again, and this time it’s dipping into the 16bit era.
Landing next month, fans can look for the LEGO SEGA Genesis to arrive in stores. And while it won’t actually play any video games, it looks like it might make some nifty shelf-dressing.

“Like many others from my generation, I still vividly remember when the SEGA Mega Drive launched – it felt completely out of this world,” said Patrik, Designer at the LEGO Group. “27 years later the love for the console is still going strong – I still play mine! Recreating the intricate details and curves of the console with LEGO elements was an enjoyable challenge, despite it’s difficulty.”
“We feel that this is a building experience that captures both SEGA’s heritage of gaming and the playful creativity of LEGO play,” said Alex Gomez, VP, Licensing & Partnerships of SEGA of America, Inc. “The SEGA Genesis holds a special place in the hearts of gamers and represents a defining era in video game history. With this new LEGO set, fans are not only able to relive those nostalgic memories, but also actively engage with SEGA’s legacy through hands-on creativity.”
SEGA press release
An option, an Easter Eggs, and a lil footprint

Non-US SEGA fans take note of the images above, as they’re not all the same. Since the Genesis was called the Mega Drive outside of the US, LEGO has taken that into account. Fans will be able to build either version of the console with this set. That does look to be a ‘one or the other’ choice though, so pick wisely.
Along with that, the set will also include buildable versions of the famous three-button controllers that shipped with the original version of the console. Add in a brick-built Sonic the Hedgehog 2 cartridge, and you have what looks to be a pretty nice set. Speaking of the Blue Blur, there’s also a slick hidden detail. That comes in the form of Sonic’s face, which will be visible only when you remove the top of the unit. Cool stuff.
Just a note here though, as this new LEGO set doesn’t look to be anywhere near 1:1 scale. Then again, that’s kind of obvious from the notebook in the imagery, not to mention the price. The LEGO SEGA Genesis set is priced in at $39.99 USD.
Ready to build some 16bit memories? Look for the set to be released on June 1st, 2026. You’ll be able to pick one up via LEGO stores, or by clicking here of the official page (on the 1st, presumably).
