LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight gets a Kiss from a Rose

Nostalgia-fueled action is the theme, as Warner Bros’ LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight debuts its launch trailer.

Batman explores his film roots

Oh my, is there a ton to like about the launch trailer for Warner Bros Games and TT GamesLEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. And you can double that (maybe triple it) depending on how long you’ve been a fan. Not only does the game look great, in what we assume is its final form, but it’s absolutely packed with callbacks to classic movies and comics. And as you may or may not know, there’s a definite reason for that.

Although it’s a LEGO title, this new Dark Knight adventure is more or less something of a love letter to the property. And yes, we mean ‘in general’. From what we’ve seen to date, it’s loaded with references and versions of familiar characters pulled from across the entirety of Batman’s existence in media.

As mentioned too, the latest trailer only bolsters that thought. From video games to movies, there’s pretty much everything in this new LEGO-ized Gotham. And as you’ll see in the video below, the 1990s will be in full effect.

To that end, the movie version of Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy are shown, as is Two-Face. And as for the musical accompaniment? Yeah, that’d be Kiss from a Rose by Seal. Pure 90s awesomeness.

Set against the backdrop of Seal’s Grammy-winning song “Kiss from a Rose” from the Batman Forever (1995) film soundtrack, the trailer features new cinematic and gameplay moments of the Caped Crusader and his crime-fighting allies – Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, Catwoman, and Talia al Ghul – as they take on an ever-growing threat from The Joker, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, Ra’s al Ghul, Bane, and other infamous DC Super-Villains in the ultimate LEGO Batman experience.

Warner Bros Games press release

Get ready Bat-fans, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is heading to consoles and the PC this month, on May 22nd. That’s the base version anyway, as players who buy into the Deluxe Edition will get a 72 hour head-start. That period will kick off on May 19th.
