Meet Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV’s Adeptus Mechanicus

The tech-heaviest faction in Warhammer 40K is coming to Dawn of War IV. Get your first look at them in action in the latest trailer.

Omnissiah be praised, it’s the Adeptus Mechanicus

Is the Omnissiah… heresy? Well, maybe so, but nobody’s going to tell the Adeptus Mechanicus that. They’re far too important to Warhammer 40,000s Imperium, and have become yet another fan-favorite faction from Games Workshop’s property over the decades.

For the first time too, the cybernetic tech-masters will get to be a playable part of a Dawn of War game. The latest title in the real-time strategy series will see to that, when Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV debuts from Deep Silver and developer KING Art Games.

This week has brought the first footage of the faction in their element, albeit in cut-scene form. That’s thanks to a brand new trailer, which depicts a force of Adepticus Mechanicus agents in action, as they explore a dead alien world.

Then again, maybe it’s not quite as dead as they think. Surprise, surprise.

Dawn of War IV delivers an unforgettable sci-fi RTS experience set within a faithful recreation of the beloved Warhammer 40,000 universe. Take charge of four factions in an epic story that spans multiple non-linear campaigns, clash with other players in tense multiplayer combat, and enjoy fan-favorite modes including Last Stand, Skirmish and more.

Deep Silver press release

Much more to come

That was Magos Dominus Nulpherus-1 leading the expedition in that trailer above. And as usual, the dead xeno worlds that they were exploring, was hardly that far gone. Once plunged into, the Necron forces that still call these tomb worlds home tend to reawaken.

As you can see though, the Mechanicus are far more than just techno-geeks. They’ll brandish some impressive looking offensive capabilities in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV. Although this was a CGI animation, you can get a sense of their strength with those Sicarian Ruststalkers that storm the crypt as the video closes. They’ll presumably be a part of the faction’s playable army in the final game.

Speaking of which, the Adeptus Mechanicus is just the second of the game’s to get a cinematic introduction. Deep Silver says that two more are waiting in the wings to get the same. We’re not sure which are meant by that, but we assume it’ll be the Necrons and Orks.

Now, just to be clear though, there is a deep dive into the Orks already out. But in terms of cinematics, they don’t really have one. There’s only the trailer featuring the Marines other than the one you just saw. And as for the Necrons, well all we’ve had to date are some glimpses (as in the above), so we figure they’re a lock.

If you’re eagerly awaiting the chance to return to this battlefield, stay tuned. With Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV arriving this year for the PC, we’d expect to see a lot more info arriving sooner than later.
