Noah is trapped in an undersea rig. Its crew vanished, he has no choice but to face the insanity of Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss.
The mysteries of the Cosmic Abyss
One of the best looking Cthulhu games that we’ve seen in a while, and we’ve seen some good ones, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is coming up soon. From NACON and developer Big Bad Wolf, the sci-fi horror title sets players in the boots of the aptly named Noah.
An investigator, Noah is trapped on a rig deep under the ocean. The crew of said rig is gone, left to investigate a mysterious, submerged city that the project lead thinks might be proof of a pre-human civilization. We’re thinking that he was on to something too, thanks to the brand new trailer for the game.
In it, we get a glimpse of the horrors that Andrew Marsh and the Ocean-I team have uncovered. It’s an evil that genre fans should know well, an ancient one that Noah will find himself uncomfortably close to.
Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a narrative investigation game inspired by the universe of Lovecraft. In this frightening first-person thriller, the player embodies Noah, an agent of the Ancile, an office specializing in occult affairs, investigating the mysterious disappearance of miners in the heart of the Pacific Ocean. His research will plunge him into the depths of the immense labyrinthine prison of R’lyeh, an ancient sunken city where Cthulhu is held captive. The player and their AI companion, KEY, will have to solve complex puzzles, make choices that will influence his destiny, and try to resist the corruption of the mind caused by the influence of Cthulhu.
NACON press release
Launching into the depths
Centering on puzzle solving and investigation, while staving off insanity, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is rapidly approaching its release date. The title is set to deluge the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on April 16th, 2026.
While that launch is a little over a month off however, pre-orders are open right now. Said advance purchase opportunities will come in two flavors. There’s, of course, the standard version, but Cthulhu fans might want to have a peek at the game’s R’lyeh edition as well.

Presumably a digital exclusive, that latter version of the game will come packed with quite a few extras. Prospective players will find an added side-quest, a soundtrack, and a digital art book. That’s not all either, as there’s also an “exclusive Arkham Horror TTRPG Scenario”. We’re guessing that’s a scenario for use in the Arkham Horror tabletop game (hence the TTRPG tag), though there isn’t a ton of info to share about it right now.

Before we go though, there’s a bonus to nab for those who want to pre-order the game. Fans who secure their copy ahead of launch will get the “Sanity Skin” pack. What’s in that? Well, we’re not sure of that either, but we’ll let you know as more is announced.
