A huge new update has brought a host of fresh features for Starship Troopers: Extermination, including a map and new progression system.
Heads up Troopers
Developer Offworld and Knights Peak continue to add onto Starship Troopers: Extermination. Officially Update 1.8, the action title’s latest drop includes some of what you might’ve expected, but some big alterations too.
First, typical inclusions serve up bug fixes (but not the interstellar kind), as well as “quality of life” improvements. Knights Peak wasn’t specific on what those might be, so we assume they’re not all that heavy-duty. But in addition to that stuff, there are those aforementioned alterations.
Those are headlined by a totally new Company Progression system. Some 50 tiers are included therein, giving players the ability to unlock elements like “emblems, frames” and more. The system builds via intel earnings that are racked up after missions.
Also packed into the update is a new map with Boreas. A frozen over ice-planet, Boreas should provide a nice setting for another recent inclusion, air strikes. Yep, players can now rain death from above on the Bugs, by calling in TAC fighters via ‘TAC Fighter Support’ and ‘Fleet Relay’ Mutators. Those can be found on the aforementioned Boreas, as well as on Valaka and Agni Prime.

The official rundown, and a hint at what’s to come
First, here’s the official word on what’s included in Update 1.8:
Knights Peak press release
- Brand-new Company Progression: Update 1.8 introduces a new Company Progression system with over 50 tiers, unlocking unique emblems, frames, and additional Company slots. Intel’s earnings after each match contribute to the Company’s growth, allowing for distinctive customization on the Leaderboards.
- New Critical Strike Map: Boreas – Prepare for a new Critical Strike map set in the frozen wastelands of Boreas. Bundle up, Troopers… It’s going to get cold out there.
- New Side Objective: Air Strikes – Troopers will need to defend Fleet Relays out in the field to call in TAC Fighters for devastating bombing runs on the Bug hordes. The more Bugs you obliterate, the closer the Federation is to winning the war. Keep your eyes peeled for the ‘TAC Fighter Support’ and ‘Fleet Relay’ Mutators on Valaka, Agni Prime, and Boreas missions.
- Bug fixes and quality of life improvements
Okay, now you’ve got the intel on what’s in Update 1.8 and you’re ready to roll back to the front. But hang on, because there’s more that was dropped on fans this week as goes Starship Troopers: Extermination. And yes, that includes a tease as to what’s on the horizon.
According to the press release, there’s some hearty new content coming. Knights Peak mentions that “new threats” are on the way, so expect fresh foes. Naturally, you’ll need some new hardware to fight ’em, and apparently that’s coming up as well. Those threats will apparently be accompanied by “tools to resist them”.
Stay tuned Troopers, this war isn’t over yet.
