Amalgam is back, as Spider-Boy returns to stores in the wake of Deadpool/Batman

One of the marquee Amalgam titles, Spider-Boy is set to return to comics shops just after the launch of Marvel and DC’s latest team-up.

Clone-ing it up

Combining Marvel Comics and DC’s universes resulted in some wild tales back in 1996. While the main crossover series set up inter-dimensional battles aplenty, the temporary result was a combined universe that featured all-new characters. One of those was Spider-Boy, an amalgamation of Spider-Man and the 90s version of Superboy.

The hero was a clone (as was the style at the time) and defender of Project Cadmus, who battled against foes like D.N.Alien, Bizarnage, and King Lizard. Naturally, things eventually were cosmically-righted, and the Marvel and DC universes split once again. But while we haven’t seen Amalgam’s heroes and villains since, they’re still pretty popular with fans. A hardcover omnibus recently saw publication after all, that’s got to count for something.

And while it’s hardly the same thing, we’re also talking about inter-company crossovers again. Don’t forget that this September sees the arrival of Deadpool/Batman from Marvel Comics, followed by Batman/Deadpool from DC. So with that in mind, would it make sense that the likes of Spider-Boy see publication once again as well?

It definitely does to Marvel, as the company will be doing just that, and will bring a facsimile to stands in October. We presume the reprint will be from DC Comics as well, though it was Marvel that made the big reveal today, so take that for what it’s worth.
