The new Red Sonja movie will be attendance at Comic Con, via a panel this week, complete with some slick giveaways included.
Swords, but no sandals
Excited for the new Red Sonja feature film? The first movie since the 80s to star the heroine, fans can look for the flick to hit theaters and digital next month, with Matilda Lutz in the title role. If you’ve yet to see the trailer, it appears to tell an origin story of sorts, kicking off a new beginning for Sonja‘s big screen heroics.
The movie sees her enslaved, and forced to participate in gladiatorial fights for an evil warlord. But of course, this being Red Sonja, she’s got other plans.
Captured. Chained. Forced to fight for survival. Red Sonja must battle her way through the blood-soaked pits of a tyrant’s empire and rally an army of outcasts to reclaim her freedom and take down Dragan and his ruthless bride, Dark Annisia.

If you’re amped to catch Red Sonja’s big screen return, and you’re heading to Comic Con this month, you’re in for an extra treat. Well, you are if you can get in that is, because the movie will have a panel presentation on hand for the mega-event.
Held in the San Diego Convention Center’s Ballroom 20, the show will kick off at 5:30pm on July 24th. Stars Matilda Lutz (Revenge), Robert Sheehan (The Umbrella Academy), and Martyn Ford (Mortal Kombat II) will all be there, along with producers Mark Canton (300) and Luke Lieberman (The Alliances Universe).
The panel will be going over the reboot, and what went into “bringing the comic book icon to life”, according to the press release. And along with the event itself, there are going to be some giveaways.
According to the Samuel Goldwyn press release, freebies will be on hand for all who attend the panel, but there’s also going to be one awesome sounding giveaway to top ’em off. That’d be the actual prop sword that you see Sonja carrying in the poster, which will go to one very lucky audience member. So if you’re a big Red Sonja fan, you might want to make your way to that Ballroom.
As for the film itself, fans can look for Red Sonja to open in theaters on August 15th, with a digital launch happening later in the month, on August 29th.
