Villain or hero, Gotham City’s Two-Face is getting a limited series where he might kind of be both

The law is funny, and even in a court of criminals the truth can matter. That’s just what Two-Face will be looking to deliver this December.

Back in a big way is Harvey Dent himself, Two-Face. A foil for Batman for decades, Gotham City’s former District Attorney has ben both a straight up villain and a twisted hero over those years. This Holiday Season will see the launch of a limited series from DC Comics though, that sort of has him in both roles. Well, kind of.

From Christian Ward and Fábio Veras, Two-Face will fall under DC’s “All In” initiative, and follow in the webbed feet of the wrapped The Penguin mini-series. Fans can look for the book to get into the man behind the monster, or actually, maybe it’s more accurate to say that it’ll get into the man and the monster. Not only is that a fascinating idea for an exploration of the character, but from the look of the preview imagery, it’s going to make for a downright creepy story.

That story, by the way, will follow an underworld trial. It’s in that court if injustice that Dent must prove that deranged serial killer Zsasz (of all people) didn’t off a fellow criminal.

“After falling in love with writing the beautiful, complicate, Harvey in Batman: City of Madness,” said Ward, “I couldn’t be more excited to be, or prouder, to be writing Two-Face’s very first solo series! Two-Face is without any hesitation not just my favourite Batman villain but my favourite character in all of Gotham, and I’m thrilled to be taking him, together with superstar artist in the making Fábio Veras and the legends that are colourist Ivan Plascencia and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, to some wild places you might not be expecting. The first of which takes Harvey Dent back to the courtroom.”

After years of internal conflict, both halves of Harvey Dent have reached an uneasy peace. In DC’s new Two-Face series, Harvey uses his skills as an attorney to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weirdest and most dangerous criminals, starting with Victor Zsasz. When Zsasz is accused of murdering a fellow member of Gotham’s underworld contingent, who better to prove a criminal’s innocence than someone who’s been on both sides of the law?

“In our series, Harvey is trying to use his criminology skills to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weird and dangerous criminal underground…all the while he has his eye on a return to civilized society and perhaps reconciling with his old friend, Bruce Wayne,” said Ward. “So all rise, court is in session, Harvey has tossed his coin and judgment is about to land!”

From Ward and Veras, and with colors from Ivan Plascencia and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Two-Face has a publishing date of December 4. The title will have a standard cover from Baldemar Rivas, plus variants from Ward, Chris Samnee, and Leonardo Romero.
