Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks blasts into Early Access

Combat racing in the Warhammer 40K universe, starring Orks, seems like a recipe for big fun, and you can check it out now on PC.

Feel the Waaagh

PLAION and developer Caged Element’s Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks seems like something that should have happened years ago. Combat racing set in the 40K universe, and starring a cadre of amped up Orks, just feels like it’d have been done at some point. Not that we mean to say that it has, because it hasn’t… til now.

That game, as you can see above, is Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, a game that’s set to bring fast, cunning, and brutal racing action to fans. The free-to-play title has been in the works for some time, and has just arrived on Early Access, dropping multiplayer action for fans to check out.

The early access version (out on the PC via Steam) of the game is of course just the beginning for the Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks adventure. But even so, it’s pretty well stocked with plenty to play around with. Included in the EA version are multiple modes, vehicles to try, and a ton of customization options.

Here’s the short list:

  • Two game modes: In Deff Rally, 16 players race to capture points and fight to control them in succession before a sprint to the finish. Kill Konvoy features teams racing alongside formidable Stompas, battling and bombing their enemy to help ensure their Stompa reaches the finish line first.
  • Eight vehicles to master and customize to help ensure victory.
  • Six epic battlefields representing the vast, hostile, and diverse grim-dark universe of Warhammer 40,000.
  • WAAAGH Path: The core progression system that encourages players to  unlock new cosmetics that are released each season, along with other items like hard currency and Scrap Boosts. An optional premium subscription – the Loot Pass – grants access to additional exclusive items.
  • More than 100 customization items: vehicle kits, paint jobs, rims, and more.

PLAION press release

While that’s pretty chunky, there’s even more on the way for when Season 1 arrives for Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks later this year. In there will be “Ork customization for players to customize their mascot-like Pit Boss”, plus “a new vehicle, a new map, and other improvements.”
