Bioshock? Cyberpunk? those are some big names, but FPS Phantom Line is looking like it might live up to the billing.
Super-SWAT
You might’ve heard of Antistatic Studios’ Phantom Line already, under the working name of Project Hornet. That former title is dead and buried now though, as Phantom Line has had the wraps decidedly removed, and is looking like it might be something special.
A co-op shooter that’s playable solo as well, Phantom Line takes place on a “post-nuclear European continent”, sliding players into the boots of an operator for Mortfield Industries. Given a second chance by the megacorp, players work under the auspice of the “Operator Simulation Program” dubbed H.U.S.K., which sees its troopers transferring their consciousness’ between artificial bodies. They’re going to need those synthetic forms too, as H.U.S.K. agents are tasked with finding and containing “anomalies”.
In the game’s world, the recent nuclear conflict has damaged space-time itself, giving way to rifts between worlds. And it’s via those rifts that those anomalies, “paranormal creatures and phenomena”, are leaking through. The terrors from the beyond must be stopped at all costs, and kept a secret from the world at large.
Not only is the story all kinds of cool, but Phantom Line looks spectacular as well. Take a peek at the first-look…
Join the paranormal SWAT.
PHANTOM LINE is a co-op (1-4) shooter set in the post-nuclear European continent. Your mission is to search and contain anomalies – paranormal activity hidden from the public eye, in an open world map full of dynamic events.
Antistatic Studios press release
Along with the horror-based action, Phantom Line offers quite a bit of customization. Players will be able to make use of their mobile HQ (a nuclear-powered icebreaker ship) to outfit both their H.U.S.K.s and cabins. Remember when we said Bioshock was being referenced in relation to Phantom Line? Well, while it wasn’t included in the trailer above, players will indeed be able to modify both their mission gear and bodies, to give them a leg up on the horrors of the battlefield.
Stay tuned, because there’s going to be a lot more on this one, as Phantom Line heads towards its release on the PC. While there’s no release date just yet, would-be fans can wishlist the game via Steam right now, and will have the chance to get in on an early playtest some time later this summer. Check out Antistatic’s official Discord for that.
