Bombshell return today on consoles, with 3D Realms’ retro-FPS Phantom Fury

Fresh from her launch on the PC, Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison has hit consoles with her latest adventure, Phantom Fury.

Phantom no more

Our original reporting on Phantom Fury’s console ports cited a 2025 launch, but that’s… well that’s just not the case. While publisher 3D Realms had listed that later date for Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game, both are here now, and we mean that as in ‘today’.

The first-person shooter follows Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison, a soldier who’s on a cross-country trip to stop some military types from completing their corrupt schemes. Along the way, players will accumulate an arsenal of impressive weaponry, face down both enemy troopers and mutant freaks, and expose a conspiracy to dominate the world. Just another day for Shelly.

A soft-sequel to the original game in the series, Ion Fury, Phantom Fury picks up the action some time after that first mission. And while it’s set in the same universe, players will find an almost wholly new tale this time around. That includes all new enemies, as well as the cybernetic arm that you see in play, in the trailer above.

Fans will find a new look to things too, as 3D Realms and developer Slipgate Ironworks have eschewed the Build Engine of Ion Fury for a late-90s aesthetic. That has Phantom Fury looking more like games such as the original Half-LIfe and SiN (very fitting).

Shooter fans can grab a copy of Phantom Fury for the PC of course, but as of today they’ll also find the game available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
