Free “Thrill of the Kill” update shambles in for World War Z: Aftermath

World War Z rolls on thanks to Saber Interactive’s perennially popular crossover game, with the Thrill of the Kill update.

How’s 6+ hours of zombie-noises sound?

We’ll get back to what that subheading means in a second, because there’s also a chunky update to talk about, for World War Z: Aftermath. Yes, the apocalypse continues here in 2024, with the latest free content drop for the multiplayer shooter, which adds in a whole bunch of new stuff to keep fans slaying.

Included in the fresh lot are six new mutators for the game’s Challenge Horde Mode, plus new weapon perks and more.

The “Thrill of the Kill” update introduces a brand-new set of six mutators for Challenge Horde Mode:

  • Anthrax: Special zombies leave a poisonous cloud upon death which can infect players.
  • Toss a Coin: Receive 10 supplies after killing a special zombie with a melee attack.
  • No Deliveries: All defenses and supplies in the store will be restricted.
  • Banshee: Screamer shouts deal 10% health damage at any distance.
  • Gladiators: The player who kills the most zombies during the wave earns additional resources.
  • Sinusitis: The Infector’s spitting distance is doubled, so watch out!

Nine new weapon perks are also available to enhance different aspects of your gameplay, including damage counters, reload speed, melee stamina and more. In addition, there are four fresh prestige perks for each existing class to acquire (32 in total), so grab your weapon of choice and take on the horde!

Saber Interactive press release

Still here? Okay let’s get back to that subheading, and a lo-fi audio presentation that’s meant to bring the zompocalypse to your evening (or whatever). The long and the short of it, is that Saber has launched a new YouTube video that offers over six hours of shuffling, moaning, and sparking Christmas lights, as well as a mostly-static animation of the horde tromping by. The vid is meant to provide sound to relax or study by, but we can’t help but think it’d make a pretty great Halloween soundtrack as well.

Yeah… we might be adding it to our favorites, to crank up and play on that haunted holiday, for a little trick or treat fun.
