Monarch: Legacy of Monsters brings Godzilla to Apple TV+ in November

Finally revealing a debut date is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apple TV+’s episodic extension of Legendary’s Monsterverse.

Rising from the sea

Legendary Pictures’ “Monsterverse” has been around for a while now, reinventing (to a degree) classic giant monsters like King Kong and Godzilla for modern audiences. The series has created a new fictional universe, where massive “Titans” have begun to return to reclaim an Earth that was their dominion in the ancient past.

While the film series has been a big one for movie-goers, the kaiju-centric spectacle is about to come to a much smaller screen. That’ll be by way of a new TV series that’s set to air on Apple TV+. In the works for some time, the show will follow one character across multiple generations, and star both Kurt Russell and his real-life son Wyatt as both the modern and 1950’s versions of Army officer Lee Shaw.

Here’s the latest look:

Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

Apple TV+ press release

As you can see there, not only did Apple put out a new trailer, but a release date too. The worldwide premier is set for Friday, November 17th, and as with many other streaming shows as of late, won’t all drop at once. Apple is planning weekly installments, extending the show’s run til January 12th, 2024.

Aside from the Russells, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will also feature Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski. Chris Black and Matt Fraction will be producing, with executive producer Matt Shakman directing episodes one and two. If you’re wondering too, yes the ancestral home of many a kaiju, Toho itself is onboard as well.

That company’s Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita are both included as EP’s, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, Andy Goddard, Brad Van Arragon, and Andrew Colville.
