Marvel Comics is set to bring Wolverine back to a very specific time, to celebrate 50 years of the X-Man

Iconic X-Men writer Chris Claremont is coming back to the X-fold once again, this time for a trip to Madripoor.

Ah that cool night air

Believe it or not, Wolverine has been around for fifty years. Or, he will be at least, and when that comes to pass in 2024, you’d best believe Marvel Comics will be celebrating. In fact, the publisher will be bringing back one of the best-loved X-Men and Wolverine writers of all time to do it.

Chris Claremont will not only be back penning this new tale, but long time X-Men fans will easily recognize both its setting and its characters. Wolverine: Madripoor Knights will pick up right from the ending of 1990’s Uncanny X-Men #268, and continue the tale of Logan, Black Widow, and Captain America.

Plunked right in the midst of a run packed with memorable issues, Uncanny 268 included what’s become an iconic cover from artist Jim Lee, and included some historic moments. In its pages was Wolverine’s first (WWII-based) meeting with Cap (and Natasha), plus a team-up that saw the trio head off to adventure in the streets of Madripoor.

At the time however, fans never got an ending to that story, as it was a one-off tale with no definitive conclusion. Til now anyway. Claremont’s new mini will supply that capper, as it will feature all three heroes, set against a horde of villains.

CLAREMONT, CAP, WIDOW, and WOLVERINE—TOGETHER AGAIN! When a secret weapon brings Captain America to Madripoor, the trio team-up you’ve been waiting decades for will finally come to pass as the mission brings Logan and Black Widow into a race against time, against a multitude of foes, including the Hand!  You’ve been waiting for this one…and you’ll never guess where it goes!

“Hard to believe, Bub, I’ve known Logan for 50 years!” Claremont shared. “And Natasha was in the first Marvel story I ever wrote. This trip back to Madripoor reveals hidden truths about two of my favorite characters on the adventure that shaped their lives.”

Marvel Comics press release

Set to run five issues, Wolverine: Madripoor Knights #1 will land on store shelves on February 7th, 2024. Claremont will be joined by Edgar Salazar for the tale, which as you can see will also have Philip Tan providing some killer cover art.
