Even the Alien license can’t escape the modern trend of the “#1”, as Marvel will start a new run of the book this fall.
A new horror rises
Have you been reading Marvel Comics’ take on the venerable Alien license? The horror property arrived at the publisher alongside Predator a few years ago, as part of the fallout over parent company Disney buying 20th Century Fox. At this point, it’s fairly deep into building out its universe.
The current series, from writer Declan Shalvey and artist Andrea Broccardo, has been voyaging into some new territory too, in creating a new strain of xenomorphs. Called “Thaw”, the arc will be coming to a close with next month’s Alien #5, though that’s far from all fans will be seeing of it.
That’s because November Alien #1 will pick right up from it, while at the same time starting something new. It’s also set to be told across two different time periods, which should create an interesting dynamic, and will continue to “develop the new subspecies of Xenomorphs that Shalvey and Broccardo have introduced while laying the groundwork for an even greater threat”.
EVERYONE WILL HEAR YOU SCREAM! The next great Alien story starts in ALIEN ANNUAL #1 and continues in the all-new ALIEN #1! In deep space spins a world infected by the universe’s greatest killers. Most people – sane people – would construct a barrier thicker than the hulls of ten Nostromos and leave it to rot. But where most people see a death trap, Weyland-Yutani sees the biggest payout in the history of civilization. And if it costs a few human lives to secure? Those come cheap here. Prepare for more corporate corruption, personal betrayals and extraordinary violence!
Marvel Comics press release
Alien #1 will be out and in stores on November 15th. And if you haven’t been reading the series that just wrapped, and you’re worried about being lost, don’t sweat it.
There’s no specific date reported yet, but Thaw will be back in stores right alongside the new first issue, in the form of a collected edition.
