If you missed the tease for Godzilla Minus One, you’re gonna want to see this

No, this isn’t the return of the crossover universe, “Hollywood” Godzilla. This new monster mash features the classic, straight from Toho.

That ain’t no rubber suit

Godzilla has been all over the place in recent decades, so you can’t really say ‘he’s back’, and yet it feels totally appropriate in the case of Godzilla Minus One. This is a Japanese-made movie spinning out of Toho, and it’s pretty easy to tell that it’s going to have a ton of the franchise’s original feel, even from this little tease.

The “King of the Monsters” returns! Today, Toho revealed the title and teaser trailer for their next Godzilla film – GODZILLA MINUS ONE.  Announced in November 2022, the film will debut in Japan on November 3, 2023 and in theaters in the US nationwide on December 1, 2023.  GODZILLA MINUS ONE sees an already devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla.  This is the first domestic Japanese film since Shin Godzilla in 2016. GODZILLA MINUS ONE is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki.

Toho press release

The King indeed. However you feel about the new films coming out of Hollywood, and they’re pretty great as far as we’re concerned, it’s awesome to see the classic Godzilla make a return from Toho. Minus One looks like it’s got a really interesting twist too, in bringing back the post-WWII theme to the franchise. If you’re a fan of classic ‘Zilla lore, it’s tough not to get pumped for it.

The film will be on the big screen in Japan on November 3rd, 2023 and… in the US on December 1st. Yep, this one’s coming to western theaters. Strap in.
