Sonic Origins Plus races onto consoles and PC today

Before you get lost in all the Sonic Superstars hoopla, don’t forget that the revamped title that is Sonic Origins Plus is out and ready to roll now.

It’s a Sonic kinda year

Obviously, the premier Sonic the Hedgehog title for 2023 isn’t Sonic Origins. It’s Sonic Superstars. While we haven’t seen all that much of it yet, the upcoming speedy platformer is so far looking like one of the most beautiful 2D adventures in years. But Superstars is still a ways off, landing this fall, and here right now is a Sonic game that got a little extra love from Sega.

Sonic Origins released in 2022, and didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Some fans found the collected edition to be too similar to what’s come before, while others thought the visual boost was negligible, and that it lacked content in a big way.

And to that end, the publisher has revamped the title, and brought Sonic Origins Plus to consoles and the PC. The new version of the collection has much more, including Game Gear titles.

Here’s what’s in the set:

  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine™
  • Sonic Blast™
  • Sonic Chaos™
  • Sonic Drift™
  • Sonic Drift 2
  • Sonic Labyrinth™
  • Sonic Spinball™
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)
  • Sonic Triple Trouble™
  • Tails Adventure™
  • Tails’ Skypatrol™

Want more? How about being able to play as Knuckles in Sonic CD? Did we mention that it comes complete with “all new level paths designed for his unique abilities”? Well, it does.

Sonic Origins Plus is out now for Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch platforms, plus the PC by way of Epic and Steam. While the base game is $39.99 USD (physically or digitally), it’s also got an upgrade option for owners of the plain old Sonic Origins. An Expansion is available alongside the full (new) game, and will cost $9.99.
