McFarlane Toys is on a roll with some of the best DC figures in a long time. Not only that, but the line is going seriously deep, like with Fight the Frozen.
The savage Bat
Have you read Fight the Frozen? A DC Comics Elseworlds-ish tale, it’s one of the more interesting alternate takes on not only the Dark Knight, but also Mister Freeze. And it all takes place in Earth’s brutal Ice Age.
Fight the Frozen starts with scientist Victor Fries, here in modern times. He’s not all that different from his usual DC Comics-self, as he’s trying to save his beloved wife, afflicted with disease. Fries theorizes that absolute zero could slow the infection, but something completely different actually occurs.
He opens a rift to the ancient past, 16,000 years into the past to be exact, and a savage world very different from the one he knows. Of course, he’s got one mission at that point – get home. And to do that, Fries will unleash frozen hell on the world, bringing in the Ice Age itself. Of course, there’s someone looking to stop him.
Facing off against this futuristic threat is a very primitive Batman, leader of the Bat-Clan, as well as the young warriors Robin and Batgirl. Sound… cool? Well, we don’t have anything to report on the actually story, but thanks to McFarlane Toys we can tell you that the designs are pretty slick.
Is this an excuse to make caveman-Batman and friends? Yeah, probably, but when the figures are this great looking who’s gonna argue. Plus Mister Freeze looks like a Big Daddy. Bonus points for that.
