Dawn of DC continuing this fall with new Blue Beetle series

Landing to follow up on the motion picture’s debut, DC Comics will have a brand new Blue Beetle ongoing landing in stores this fall.

The Beetle returns

Did you catch the trailer for Blue Beetle? The DC Comics property will be one of the first films to actually take place in director James Gunn’s reborn DCU ‘movie universe’, and is set to arrive in theaters this August.

But that’s not all the Blue Beetle news out there, as DC has just revealed a fresh comic book series as well. The relaunched title will focus once again on the most recent (and the movie’s) incarnation of the hero, one Jaime Reyes.

It’ll be a shift for the hero, picking up from the last issue of the recently released six-part mini, though sending him in a new direction. If you recall, the mini-series found Beetle with quite a bit on his plate, and that’s not going to be changing anytime soon.

Jaime Reyes’ graduation is over, but his new life in Palmera City and as the Blue Beetle has only just begun! With two new beetles to train in Dynastes and Nitida, Jaime has his hands full navigating being a leader. Thankfully, he has Paco and Brenda by his side as they settle in at Palmera State University. But what lurks in the shadows of Blue Beetle’s new home and what does it mean for the Blue Beetle legacy?

DC Comics press release

While the location will change, and there seem to be plenty of new characters at his side, the creative team will be intact for the fresh run. Blue Beetle writer Josh Trujillo will be staying on with the character, along with the artist team of Adrian Gutiérrez, Wil Quintana, and Lucas Gattoni. So in a way, this is kind of a continuation, just with a new numbering.

Look for Blue Beetle to hit stores this September, as a part of DC Comics’ continuing Dawn of DC event.
