Dark Horse enters the gaming space

No, not board gaming, Dark Horse Comics is making its way into the video-gaming space. And of course, they’ll be mining their rich selection of IPs.

Game on

That’s right, Dark Horse Comics is getting into the games market. And given the wealth of properties that Dark Horse has access to, it’s pretty darn exciting news.

“We’ve spent the past thirty-five years developing a long list of original, fan-favorite IP with many of the best partners in digital entertainment. Now is the perfect time to expand our vision into gaming,” said Dark Horse Comics founder and President Mike Richardson. “Dark Horse Games gives us exciting new ways to engage with fans of all kinds on a multitude of platforms.”

So what’s on the table? Mentioned by name in the press release for the announcement was the likes of Hellboy, Sin City, 300, Umbrella Academy, Polar, Lady Killer, Emily the Strange, Usagi Yojimbo, and Resident Alien. Of course, there are many more IPs available for Dark Horse to mine, but you get the idea.

And lest you’re thinking that these will be cash-ins on the names that Dark Horse holds, think again. The publisher is saying that they’ll be looking to push out “AAA licensed titles”, involving both older IPs, and new properties. Expect to see those games appear on pretty much everything too, including “all platforms, including PC, consoles, mobile and cloud-based services”.

Worth noting too, is that Dark Horse Gaming will also be producing webtoons and anime. There isn’t much info on that end of things just yet, but it’s definitely promising.
