Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid debuts

Go, go Power Rangers – nWay’s original fighting game brings the heroes back to video gaming. Battle for the Grid hits consoles today.

It’s Morphin Time

Different than the Power Rangers you remember? There’s a reason for that, as nWay’s newest features versus fighting and a story that digs into the Power Rangers “multiverse”.

“We wanted to make this the best Power Rangers game yet so we focused on each character’s detail and history and worked closely with Hasbro and Lionsgate to respect the Power Rangers IP,” said Taehoon Kim, co-founder and CEO of nWay. “At the same time, we wanted to make this a true fighting game that everyone from novices to pros could enjoy, so we consulted with senior members of the fighting game community like Justin Wong and employed MvC legend Daniel “Clockw0rk” Maniago to lead combat design. The end result is that Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is a full-fledged MvC style 3v3 tag fighting game.”

Picking and choosing characters from the series’ history, the game weaves a narrative about an alternate universe where the Green Ranger remained villainous. With an army at his back, and now calling himself Lord Drakkon, the evil mastermind finds himself face to face with an assortment of heroes.

The battles that ensue play out in three-on-three style, complete with over the top Ultra moves. Yes, calling in a giant bot to stomp your foe is something that you can do. As for the roster, it’s not all that deep. but sounds like it might hit the right notes with long time fans.

Though nWay might be better known for mobile games, Battle for the Grid sounds fairly well rounded too. Modes include both online and off, including arcade and versus battles.

There are also collectible banners for you to find as you play, those Ultras I mentioned (where you can call in the Dino Megazord, Dragonzord, or Mega Goldar), and 5 playable areas.

The game is out as of today for consoles, and will hit the PC as well in the near future. It’ll cost you $19.99 USD.
