Netflix’ Polar adaptation gets a first trailer

Bringing the Dark Horse comic to life, Mads Mikkelsen stars in this Netflix adaptation that brings the hired-killer to life on the small screen.

Graphic

Polar, as a story, has been around for a while. Originally hitting stores as Polar: Came from Cold, the graphic novel was written by Victor Santos and published by Dark Horse Comics back in 2014.

This movie has been talked about for a while too, though I’m not sure just how long. I definitely remember hearing about it for some time. Now that it’s almost here though, it’s looking pretty neat.

Check out the first trailer.

The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser, is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.

Netflix press release

There’s a definite John Wick vibe happening there I think. Lots of crazy action and plentiful gunplay just about throughout. More of that isn’t a bad thing by any means. There’s also no denying that Mads Mikkelsen has a solid fanbase at this point. So there should be plenty of people who’ll want to check out Polar just for him.

While we certainly can’t tell what kind of adaptation writer Jayson Rothwell has created from this first look, it seems like director Jonas Ackerlund has a good handle on what’s visually cool. Always a good thing.

Watch for Polar to land on Netflix on January 25th. And if you’re digging the tunes in that trailer, you’ll be happy to know that the soundtrack hits on the very same day from deadmau5.
