Gotta go fast- into theaters. Sega’s iconic Sonic the Hedgehog is blasting onto the big screen in the not too distant future. Actually, he’ll be landing at the cineplex next year.

What a time to be alive, huh? I mean, here we are with a Super Mario movie on the way (probably), and now we’ve got Sega talking silver screen Sonic. Apparently this one has been in the pipe for a long while now, and I very vaguely recall hearing about it. That was at Sony however, and the film has apparently changed hands since then, landing at Paramount Pictures.
MCV ponts out that the original plan was actually to combine live action with animation. Whether or not that’s still the course they’ll be heading down is anyone’s guess, though we do have a release date. Yep, that’s right, a date has been set for the Blue Blur’s big debut and it’ll be November 15th of 2019.
There’s some legit talent behind it too, with Deadpool’s Tim Miller acting as Executive Producer. The director is also set, though he’s a little less proven than Miller. Actually, this will be Jeff Fowler’s first film. Not that he’s never directed before, since he did an Oscar winning short film called Gopher Broke in 2005. It’s just that Sonic will be the very first big budget movie for him.
We’ll have plenty more about Sonic as it’s revealed.
