The Marvel U is set to hunt for Wolverine this spring

Sure Wolverine is back and all, but nobody in the Marvel U is really even aware of it. That’s a little fact that won’t last to much longer though. The Hunt for Wolverine is kicking off this May.

He’s out there

Somewhere out there in the Marvel Universe, a formerly-dead X-Man is… doing… something. I don’t actually know what Wolverine has been up to since he was seemingly freed from his Adamantium prison by an Infinity Stone, but all’s about to be revealed. That’s thanks to a series of four stories, all appearing in a separate single issues this May. But before that, we get one title that will lead into this new sorta-mini-series.

Continuing the story that’s been told in the “post credits” Wolvie shorts that’ve appeared in some Marvel books, The Hunt for Wolverine #1 will hit stores this April. That will spin out into these four one-shots. And all of this will be once again helmed by Charles Soule. Soule wrote the Death storyline from a few years back, so he’s got a history with Logan.

“I’ve been holding my tongue, just waiting to announce this project and team of ultra-talented creators,” said series editor Mark Paniccia. “While these stories all reveal clues to the larger mystery behind Wolverine’s return, the writers all have some pretty huge moments planned that will have X-MEN fans talking and debating for some time to come.”

There’s a nice crew of artists on hand as well. “Avengers No Surrender writer Jim Zub, She-Hulk writer Mariko Tamaki, All-New Wolverine writer Tom Taylor, The Amazing Spider-Man artist Matteo Buffagni, X-Men Blue artist R.B. Silva, Black Panther and the Crew artist Butch Guice, and Spider-Man/Deadpool artist Chris Bachalo” will all be lending a hand.

Separate, but not really

Yes, even though Hunt is a four part tale taking place in four separate one-shots, it will all link up into one story. But it’s going to do it in a pretty neat way. The four standalones will each have a very distinct tone. So each issue will give fans a completely different Wolverine-influenced story.

They are:

  • Weapon Lost (noir/detective)
  • Adamantium Agenda(action/adventure)
  • Claws Of A Killer (horror)
  • Mystery in Madripoor (dark romance)

You’ll be able to find a boatload of Marvel’s heaviest hitters in these books too. The publisher promises “characters from Daredevil to Kitty Pryde to Spider-Man to Iron Man, major Marvel heroes will become part of Wolverine’s mystery as they try to track down Logan and figure out his secrets.” So it’s kind of like a mini-major event that we’re looking at here.

And it all seems like it’s spinning even further, into something even bigger, as Infinity looms large.
