Nintendo-branded cereal makes a comeback with Super Mario Odyssey

While it’s not the Nintendo Cereal System of the 1980s, this is still pretty cool. Super Mario cereal is now a thing.

A crunchy odyssey

You’ll have to excuse me, because I was a huge fan of the Nintendo Cereal System. Like, huge. I had it all the time when I was a kid, and it was a fun way to get a little Nintendo into my before-school day. Of course, I could have just played my NES for a while, but that would have meant missing Voltron. And let’s be honest, that wasn’t gonna happen.

But once again, I am free to revisit those carefree days of cartoons and Nintendo cereal, thanks to this new deal between the company and Kellogg’s.

“This powered-up partnership with Kellogg’s is another exciting way for us to expand the Nintendo brand in unique and creative ways,” said Tom Prata, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. “We are always looking for new opportunities to bring smiles to people of all ages, and this is a fun way to kick off the day.”

Fun indeed, and hopefully quite tasty. Super Mario Cereal will have “power-up” marshmallows and a reported mixed-berry flavoring. Sounds pretty good to me. What it won’t be though, is around all that long. The new cereal is a limited edition affair, which means that you better enjoy it while you can when it arrives on December the 11th.

“We are thrilled to pack so much fun into one box of cereal,” said Brad Schwan, Senior Director of Morning Foods Marketing. “The package adds value and excitement for fans, with marshmallow shapes in the cereal inspired by Super Mario power-ups to tie the theme together.”

Oh, also it’s probably worth a mention that the box is kind of an Amiibo.

Apparently, you can tap the box as you would one of Nintendo’s figures, and get some goodies in Mario Odyssey like coins and hearts. So there’s a nice little bonus for you to go along with your breakfast.
