Redbox starts offering Nintendo Switch games at select locations

Redbox has offered video games for a while of course, but till now they haven’t gotten into Nintendo Switch titles.

With kiosks located in loads of major (and minor) cities across the US, Redbox has carved out an impressive niche. They’re kind of the modern answer to the video rental shops of old. And while they’re still probably best known for movies, their video game business has exploded over the last few years. With plenty of PS4 and Xbox One games on offer, the automated rental “store” has given many gamers the chance to try before they buy.

And now you can add Nintendo Switch games to their stable. Redbox has announced that Switch carts are available right now, at select ‘boxes in some US cities. If you’re in any of the following towns, you might have a Switch-box nearby.

• Seattle, Washington
• San Antonio, Texas
• Portland, Oregon

No, that’s not a lot of locations, but I’d expect to see a bunch more before long. The Switch has accrued a very nice audience for itself after all, and it’s done it in a relatively small amount of time. So I imagine there’s a very solid chance that Redbox will expand it’s slate of not only cities, but also games sometime soon.

Currently titles rent for $3 USD a night and are not available for reservation. It’s strictly first-come, first-served.

• Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
