Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans are about to get a spinoff centered on the team’s usual teacher, Rupert Giles. Only this time, he’s the student.
Old School
Giles is heading back to High School in this new Buffy spinoff mini-series, announced at NYCC this week. Buffy’s mentor is trapped in the form of a teen version of himself, and of course, that means going back to High School.
And before you ask, yes there’s a reason. He’s not just going to subject himself to that again for fun.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Giles finds Rupert Giles returning to high school! But this time—as a grown man living in a teenage body—Giles will be a student instead of a teacher. At an inner-city Los Angeles school, when a mystical influence is detected and teachers start to go missing, Giles enrolls to investigate. What he finds is more than vampires and demons . . . something unusual and frightening is happening here. If Giles can get through one day as a student, he’ll have a chance to find out who, what, and where, but high school is still hell.
Buffy creative force Joss Whedon himself will take up the writing chores on this one, along with Erika Alexander of Concrete Park fame. Artist Jon Lam will be lending his pencils to the illustrations, joined by colorist Dan Jackson. Steve Morris and Arielle Jovellanos will be crafting the cover art. And that’s a very nice team overall.
Watch for Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Giles #1 (of 4) to hit the stands on February 28th, 2018.
