Marvel vs Capcom Infinite mashes up the two universes is a battle for Infinity today

The latest fighting game in the long running Marvel vs Capcom series is finally here. Check out the newest trailer before you go grab a copy.

Infectious

There’s so much going on in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite that I kind of forgot all about the main narrative. And for the first time in one of these games, it looks like the story might actually be more than a footnote. The main heavy? That’d be none other than a merged Ultron and Sigma (from Mega Man X).

Looks pretty cool, and I always like to see a developer pushing fighting games into a more story-based arena. It worked so very well for NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat and Injustice series’ that there’s no reason to think that it couldn’t work elsewhere as well. So bravo to Capcom on that one.

Featuring 2 on 2 fights, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite looks like it’s poised to offer a heck of a lot of content to fight fans. You can expect 30 playable heroes and villains at launch, all of whom can make use of the Infinity Stones. The Stones act as power-ups in the game, and can affect matches in different ways.

As for modes, Training, Mission, and Arcade offline modes will be playable. Online is -of course- also present and will stock “ranked and casual matches, global leaderboards, and online lobbies”. There’s also a spectator mode as well.

Post-launch, Capcom has plans for dlc characters… which you probably saw coming.

Will these be X-Men? No. There are no X-Men (apparently) coming up for Infinite. Am I happy about that? No. But you never know what next year might bring, and honestly some of the announced dlc fighters are pretty awesome. Look for Sigma, Black Panther, Monster Hunter, Venom, Winter Soldier and Black Widow to all be included at some point.

You can lock all those characters up right now as well, if you purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game (also available today) or the 2017 Character Pass. Note that that pass is clearly labeled “2017”. So might there be more packs in the future? Again, you never know.

As of right now though, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is on the shelves and digital download storefronts for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
