The Surge slices and dices in new limb-severing trailer

Mech-suits and chainsaws a-plenty! It’s time for a new trailer for The Surge. Get ready to “Target, Loot, and Equip.”

The Surge teaches the fundamentals of its combat

This is one of those games that I don’t have a firm understanding of. You know the type, a title that looks pretty great, but for one reason or another just hasn’t made an impact on you. Well that’s me with The Surge. I do have to say though, every trailer looks that much better. And according to developer Deck 13 and Focus Home, there might be some good reasons for that.

First and foremost, that combat looks pretty awesome. Since I’m a fan of Warhammer 40k, chainswords are a fave already, so I’m half sold right there. But there’s some depth to be had too, since you’l be able to target specific body parts. And yes, that means you’ll be able to dismember them before moving in for the fatal blow.

According to the publisher, that will all equate up to a pair of options that’ll present themselves when engaging a baddie. In scenario ‘A’, you can target those parts that deal the most damage, making the fight shorter. Scenario ‘B’ sounds much more appetizing however, even though it can make some battles a bit of a marathon.

In that second option, you have a much better chance of slicing off a piece of your opponent’s battle suit. And yes, that also means that that part will be usable, and addable to your own rig after the fight. Pretty cool.

Looking sharp and somewhat innovative, The Surge comes to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May the 16th.
