A return to a ‘classic’
I’d wager that you never thought you’d see the Clone Saga making a return. It is, after all, maybe one of the most disliked parts of Spider-Man’s history. The 90s ‘epic’ that was the Clone Saga re-introduced the creepy Jackal to Spidey’s books. The wacko former-teacher was obsessed with the web-head, and had cloned him several times over to varying levels of success.
This led to the Scarlet Spider (the first one) and Ben Reilly. If you remember, he even took over the mantle of Spider-Man for a while. None of that took of course, or even lasted that long. And in fact, most Spider-Man fans of the time didn’t care for the story at all. Truth be told, I actually liked it, but that’s me.
And while the event itself might be a follow-up to that era’s story, it’s very little like it. With the return of some of Spider-Man’s greatest foes, this new Clone Conspiracy just could be the Spidey event of the decade. Actually, if you’re a big fan of the character, I can’t see how you could not be excited.
Why’s that? Pretty dimple actually, like it says in the press release above, we get the return of “Rhino, the Lizard, Electro and even Doctor Octopus”. What’s not to love about that? Hopefully they’ll be around for a little longer than this one arc, but it’s nice to have these classic villains back at all.
By Slott and Cheung, The Clone Conspiracy kicks off in a standalone first issue this coming October.
