The good news is that we have a release date for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI, the bad news is that it’s next year.
Not al that unexpected
Let this sink in for a second: Grand Theft Auto V was released in the fall of 2013. Yes, it’s true that Rockstar’s biggest GTA to date was supported for a long time after that launch date, and still is really, but it’s still been a dozen years since fans have seen a new Grand Theft Auto installment.
That drought, of course, is coming to an end with a return to Vice City, in Grand Theft Auto VI. Revealed by way of a phenomenal looking trailer in late 2023, the upcoming game looks like it’ll be upping the ante considerably from what’s come before. That’d be no small feat, considering the popularity and scope of past titles in the series.
After that sneak peek though, Rockstar fell silent once again, as the developer looked to get GTA6 ready to roll out with a release some time in 2025. But if you were looking forward to that big day, you’re going to have to wait a little longer, as the company has just announced a delay.
Rockstar released the news via its X feed today, saying that fans should look towards a 2026 release, with Grand Theft Auto VI arriving on May 26th of next year. While we’re definitely a little bummed to hear that the next adventure in Rockstar’s world of crime and corruption is more than a year out, we have to admit that we’re also happy the talented team is taking its time.
The developer has certainly shown what it’s capable of after all, and if there’s another year that’s needed, well we’re more than happy to oblige. Not that we have a choice really.
